A fully sealed trailer solves the weather and theft problem but creates a new one — moisture and fumes have nowhere to go unless the trailer is actively vented.
Why Ventilation Matters
Unlike an open-top box trailer, where natural airflow prevents moisture buildup, a sealed enclosed trailer traps humidity, fuel/chemical fumes, and heat unless fitted with roof vents or louvres. This matters for equipment that needs to dry out between uses, materials sensitive to trapped moisture, and any cargo with fuel or chemical residue (mowers, generators, motorcycles) where fume buildup is a genuine safety issue in a sealed space.
Vent Types
Static roof vents (no moving parts, rely on passive airflow) suit light-duty use; powered extraction vents suit trailers regularly carrying fuel-powered equipment or used as an enclosed workshop where fume clearance matters more. Louvred side vents add airflow without the water-ingress risk of an open vent, at some cost to the trailer's weatherproof seal.
Weatherproofing
Weatherproofing depends on seal quality at every join — door seals, roof-to-wall joins, and any vent or window fitted — not just the presence of a roof. A cheaply sealed enclosed trailer can leak at these joins despite looking fully enclosed; checking door and roof seal quality matters as much as checking the headline "fully enclosed" spec.

Do enclosed trailers need vents?
Yes, in almost all cases — without active or passive ventilation, moisture and fumes build up inside a sealed trailer, which is a problem for both equipment condition and, where fuel-powered gear is carried, genuine safety.
Are enclosed trailers actually waterproof?
Only as good as their seals — door seals, roof joins and any vents/windows are where leaks actually happen, not the flat panel surfaces. Check seal quality specifically rather than assuming 'enclosed' means fully waterproof.
